Directions to Westbere Lakes

Access to the Westbere lakes is by the village of Sturry, which is situated 1.5 miles NE of Canterbury and 4.5 miles S of Herne Bay.

Coming from West Kent/M25 traffic congestion around the Canterbury ring road and Sturry road can be avoided by taking the M2 and A299 and A291 to the N of Canterbury. We suggest visiting teams use this route rather than going through Canterbury at all peak times, Monday-Saturday.

From M 25: From the M25 /Surrey, take the M26 and M20. Passing Maidstone, take the A299 (signed Sittingbourne / Ramsgate) to reach the M2.

From the M25/Essex, after the Dartford Crossing, take the M2/A2 signed for Canterbury.

Take the M2 past Faversham, continue on the A299 (new Thanet Way) to exit at A291 Herne Bay/Canterbury. Take the A291 towards Canterbury to Sturry.

At Sturry take the A28 right (towards Canterbury) and go over the railway level crossing. Then after 220m take the first left (immediately before Papas) into Fordwich Road. Go approx 200m along Fordwich Road and take first left into Marlow Meadows (also signed as Brett’s Landscaping/Sturry Quarry). Follow the private road through two gatesyou will turn right at the sign for the boat club.

From Canterbury: From Canterbury take the A28 towards Margate as far as Sturry. At Sturry village take the right fork immediately before the Papas restaurant. Then turn right into Fordwich Road. After 150 m turn left into Marlow Meadows. Follow directions to the Boathouse as above.
